Once the capital of the Western Roman Empire, Ravenna then served as capital for the Ostrogoth Kingdom and then as a major port city for the Byzantine Empire.
Similarly, Bologna is a city of art, culture, and commerce known for its manufacturing tradition and hosting conventions. Bologna’s 38km of arcaded streets are the longest porticos in the world.
Leaning since its completion in 1372, Pisa’s famous icon is the bell tower of the striped Romanesque cathedral beside it in the Piazza dei Miracoli.
On the other hand, Lucca is a real Tuscan treasure, encircled by well-preserved Renaissance walls that today provide tree-lined paths from which to view the city and surroundings either on foot or by bike.
Thousands of years of architectural and historical treasures including the Pantheon, Forum, Colosseum, and St. Peter’s basilica characterize this renown capital. We’ll also visit the impressive collection of the Vatican museums that house Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and the papal apartments painted by Rafael.
Milan is the Italian city of fashion and industry. The city also has modern and historic architecture that offers a variety of styles that will satisfy everyone.
The Cinque Terre are five colorful fishing villages linked by walking trails on the Italian Riviera. Together with the surrounding hills and sea they form the Cinque Terre National Park and are designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Assisi and Perugia are in the Umbria region, called the cuore verde (green heart) of Italy for its centrality and forest. Assisi is the town of Saint Francis, founder of the Franciscan Order in 1208, and patron saint of Italy. Perugia is home to the Perugina chocolate factory, world-famous for its Baci chocolates.
The Amalfi Coast holds some of the most unique mediterranean views, from the clustered towns built in the gaps of a tremendously dramatic coastline with steep mountains, windy roads, vibrant waters, and terraced vineyards.We will also visit Naples, which is the third-largest city in Italy and it holds the the most important port in the southern part of the country.
Our week long Sicilian tour comes as a special treat at the end of the academic year. The strategic location of this largest island of the Mediterranean played a key role in its intriguing history involving myriad different civilizations such as Phoenician, Greek, Roman and Arab.
I’m honestly so glad I was able to experience and immerse myself in the Italian culture. Learning with Milena, Cooking class with Graziela, and fashion with Marcela, to name a few, were part of the great experience. Italy itself holds a huge part of my heart.

The best part about my experience is that it exceeded all of my expectations. Through the lovely faculty at Villa Aurora, I was able to immerse myself in the culture, learn the language, and feel like I was a part of a community of the most loving people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I felt, in all my college years, that for the first time I was really able to learn about who I was while learning about a culture very different from my own. I am grateful every day for the experience and would recommend it to anyone interested in going.
