1-Day Trip Highlights

Assisi and Perugia are in the Umbria region, called the cuore verde (green heart) of Italy for its centrality and forest.

Assisi is the town of Saint Francis, founder of the Franciscan Order in 1208, and patron saint of Italy. He was known as being a lover of nature and a promoter of simple living. The Basilica of St. Francis houses famous frescoes by medieval artists Giotto and Cimabue. The town also boasts many other beautiful churches, 2 medieval castles, and Roman ruins and views from its hillside location.

Italians are passionate about their chocolate and Perugia is home to the Perugina chocolate factory, world-famous for its Baci chocolates. We’ll visit the museum and factory, learning about the creative Luisa Spagnoli who invented the treat, seeing the production process, and tasting the results!
