Leaning since its completion in 1372, Pisa’s famous icon is the bell tower of the striped Romanesque cathedral beside it in the Piazza dei Miracoli. However, Pisa is more than just “The Leaning Tower,” it is a city that is both modern and ancient and holds some of the most important universities in all of Italy that have produced some of the greatest Italian thinkers and politicians.

On the other hand, Lucca is a real Tuscan treasure, encircled by well-preserved Renaissance walls that today provide tree-lined paths from which to view the city and surroundings either on foot or by bike. The strong city walls preserve the tales of eras past, starting from the Roman period and extending through the medieval and the renaissance periods. The narrow winding streets within the walls, hold many hidden gems that are worth the visit.
