The Libro Amico cycle continues with a meeting that invites reflection on one of the most complex and sensitive issues in contemporary ethics. On Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m., the Conference Room of the Adventist Institute of Florence will host Francesco Allegri, professor at the University of Siena and author of the volume Humanity in the making. Abortion from an ethical-philosophical perspective. (Mimesis, 2025).
In his essay, Allegri approaches the issue of abortion with a rigorous and sensitive gaze, analyzing the concept of “humanity in the making” in the light of moral philosophy. The author questions how contemporary society defines the value of nascent life, the relationship between individual freedom and collective responsibility, and the role ethical reflection can play in public debate.
In dialogue with the author will be Hanz Gutierrez, professor at the Adventist Faculty of Theology, who will offer a theological and anthropological look at the topic, enriching the comparison of different but complementary perspectives.
The meeting will be held at the Adventist University Institute Conference Room (Via Ellen Gould White 8, Florence) and will be broadcast live on the Institute’s Facebook page: facebook.com/AdventistInstitute.
An opportunity to explore, through the language of philosophy, fundamental questions about the origin, value and dignity of human life.
Event sponsored by CeCSUR – Cultural Center for Humanities and Religious Studies, in collaboration with the Adventist Faculty of Theology and theAdventist University Institute.
